Assign Book section to book?

$

Hi there! I couldn't find this question anywhere; please excuse if it has been asked already! Is there a way I can allocate book sections to a book? Let's say I have a collective book (B) and quote several articles from within this book (b1, b2, b3...). In this case I have to fill in the citation for b1, b2, b3 etc. seperatly, which is a) cumbersome and b) confusing in the library. Is there a way I can just fill in the information for B and then let Mendeley derive the information for b1, b2, b3 etc. automatically? And then maybe even sort it in a way, which makes clear that b1, b2, b3 etc. all belong to B? Thanks a lot! -Theo

Problems highlighting in merged files

When I highlight one document in a merged set of PDFs (e.g., the article and its supplementary material), the same highlighting appears on all documents. How do I prevent that from happening? Note that this is a new problem in the last month or so. I wasn't having this problem in the past (I use Mac OS X 10.8.4 and Mendeley desktop version 1.9.2). Thanks.

Problems with in-text citations

For some reason, Mendeley (in word 2010) is not recognising details of the articles I am trying to reference. I click on add citation, then write in the box the name of the author and although they are in my mendeley desktop reference list, they do not come up in word (even with references I have previously cited in text. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Search by Title is broken...

I've seen others post about this, but it seems the issue is not resolved in the latest version (1.9.2) While using 'Search by Title' to auto-correct my meta-data, I came across one file that did not quickly retrieve any info from Google Scholar. The wheel just kept spinning, and never stopped. Restarting the program temporarily fixes the problem, but now, hitting the button for any file causes an infinite wait. So far as I can tell there is no captcha.

sync chrome zotero

I've been trying to sync Zotero with Mendeley in Chrome and it's not working. I looked at the sqlite location in Zotero preferences and it says C:\Users\Mastore\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\yjxjhwtk.default\zotero which is a Firefox link not a Chrome link. I have already created an Extension in Chrome to Zotero but the preferences in Zotero can't "see" the Chrome extension. I searched on my computer for the sqlite and the only ones it finds is the Firefox one. How do I direct it to a Chrome link?

References not added to library

I added new references to the library at a library computer and also used these references in my word document. However, when I opened Mendeley Desktop at my home computer there seemed to not have been added. So I added them again to Mendeley desktop at my home computer and used them in my word document. Now, when I opened M. Desktop at the library, they again have not been added, neither in my online account. I assume it is some kind of synchronization problem. Any ideas?

Mendeley works on a new document, but not on an existing document

Mendeley works on a new document, but not on an existing document. I'm working on my thesis and found that Mendeley does not work on this existing document, but does on other documents and new documents? So I painfully recreated my thesis (as it is so far)and used cut and paste to put my exisitng body content into the new document. As soon as I did this, again Mendeley stopped working. :(

Mendeley not working in Word

I noticed other people have issues with Mendeley today. I was working in my document for hours and I could insert citations without a problem. I've been working on it the past few weeks and it was working perfectly fine as well. Today suddenly it didn't want to insert any new citations anymore (whatever citation style). I tried to insert citations in a new document, which worked initially but then stopped working soon after again. Hope this is fixable! Because I really need it to start working again in order to be able to add my final citations to my dissertation as well as insert my full bibliography at the end. Kind regards

Risk of deleting files permanently?

Hi, I've just pointed Mendeley at my general drive for it to pick up all my pdfs that are spread across multiple folders. It has also picked up a lot of irrelevant pdfs, which I want to remove from Mendeley. There are two options: Remove from Collection and Delete Documents. What is the difference? I tried Remove from Collection, but they still appear in list. I tried Delete Documents and it moved it to trash, but I'm afraid to Empty Trash in case it deletes the actual pdf (which I don't want). Thanks, Peter

Poor layout under high-DPI in Windows

This may just be an issue with Windows 8.1 Preview. Under high-DPI scaling on my Surface Pro, Mendeley cuts off the last 1.5 digits of the publication year when viewing the library regardless of the column width. Is anyone seeing this layout bug with earlier versions of Windows?

not a valid database backup

Hello, I wanted to merge the references of one of my groups with my library. By precaution, I backed up my database via Help, Create Backup. This created a .zip file. I merged the duplicates a bit too fast, and I would like to undo it. So I go to Help, Restore Backup, select my .zip file created 5 min earlier, type "I want to restore all my data" and I get the following error message: "The selected file does not contain a valid database for the current user or there is some problem preparing the restore procedure". So, what exactly is the problem and how can I fix it? Thanks for your help, VL

bibliography not refreshing

I have a Windows Word 2010 document with the most recent Mendeley version and plugin, and the bibliography is not refreshing when I update references in the desktop application. I tried deleting and reinserting a bibliography, but it seems to be stuck at a certain version of my library. This is bibliography code: {ADDIN Mendeley Bibliography CSL_Bibliography}

merging citations in the bibliography

Many helpful comments have been posted about merging citations inline (ie. 3-6), but what about merging multiple citations in the bibliography display. For example, if a sentence cites three different papers together, in some styles such as required by various chemistry publishers, they would appear in the bibliography as follows: (1) (a) citation 1; (b) citation 2; (c) citation 3. Many thanks for any insight on how to do this in Mendeley.

Hello, Is it possible to change the color scheme of the desktop version? Right now it is hard to see to which groups papers are assigned to! Would be nice to have "stronger" color. Thanks! Sergey

Mendeley 1.9.2 no longer generates citation keys

Hi Recently Mendeley has stopped automatically generating citation keys. This seems to be the case for every new reference I import (generally journal article or conference proceedings document types). I changed two things just before I noticed this : - I upgraded to Mendeley 1.9.2, I'm not sure which version I had before - I changed the "document detail" settings for the conference proceedings type, so that the citation key is visible. I've had citation key visible for the journal article type for a long time. Thanks

Originally inserted citations linked randomly to other papers

On insert in Word I get the question „Keep Citation Edit?“ for every citation in my document. 1. I did not manually edit these citations 2. The question is something along these lines: The citation (Smith, 2012) has been manually edited. Revert to the formatted version (Parker, 1995)? The point is that the citations do not correspond. 3. When I look at the fieldcode in Word I see, that they all refer to other citations than what is visual in the document. It seems that all the inserted citations now refer to other papers, than the ones I originally inserted. The originally inserted citations now appear as if they were manually edited, which they were not. How did this happen and how can I get my originally inserted citations back? I use Mendeley 1.9.2 on MAC OS X 10.8.4 Word 2008 for MAC Version 12.3.6 Thanks for your help Sabin

bibtex export and umlaute (special characters)

$

I have problems using Umlaute (special characters) in the author name field in Mendeley Desktop when doing an export of the bibliography as bibtex format. In an entry for a book I have Jájá as author. When exporting it to bibtex, I get: author = {J\'{a}j\'{a}, Joseph}, which leads to problems in the bibliography, since bibtex does interpret the letters \ and ' independently as correct letters and I get something like [J'92] (with actually the accent being on top of the '9') lateron. For my bibtex to work correctly (discover, that indeed á is only one letter), I would need the entry in bibtex as follows (with extra brackets around what represents the letter á): author = {J{\'{a}}J{\'{a}}, Joseph}, then everything works fine, bibtex knows this is only one letter and can process it to become [JáJ92]. At the moment I manually correct the exported bibtex file, which is not really nice, when updating it quite often. What is the official way to go here? I would also be happy, if I could enter some escaping characters in Mendeley Desktop in the author field in order to produce those needed extra brackets for the moment to avoid correcting the bibtex file manually. (I tried with entering the brackets directly in Mendeley, J{á}J{á}, but this produced {J\{\'{a}\}j\{\'{a}\}, Joseph} i.e. escaped brackets, which is also wrong). Many thanks in advance :)

Citation inserts in to a word table, but then disappears

Hi, I'm using mac word 2008, and am inserting a citation into a table, which seems to work, but then the reference disappears. Strangely this does not happen with all citations as I already have citations within the table. Is there any way to get around this issue?
