generate bibliography with citing that is a part of a sentence

Hi there, How do I make sure the bibliography includes a reference for an article that I cited in the body of the sentence. For example: "In studying a construct that may be reflective of attachment style, Jennings, Salts, and Smith (1992) examined the effects of... " What I have done in the past is inserted that as a citation with parentheses and then manually changed it. Is there a faster way to do this? thanks
