I saw that I'm not the only one with this issue, maybe meanwhile there's been implemente some kind of workaround?
Every time I insert a new citation, the whole amount of citations in the document gets updated, which is a pain:
• First of all, it prompts me with a "Keep the manual edit" dialogue for EVERY citation that I have copied into the footnote. As the plugin can't handle citations in footnotes, copying it to the footnote manually is the workaround that you guys suggested, if I recall that correctly. So: Each time I insert a new citation, I have to confirm more than 25 (until now, that is) so-called 'manual edits'.
• It takes about 2 minutes (or more, depending on where in the document I'm inserting a citation), until the {inserting} thing finally gets replaced by the entry, and it takes another minute before the whole document has been completed.
I'm writing my PhD thesis and I have a document of approx. 130 pages of length so far, but only approx. 25 pages have serious citations inserted, then some more here and there. I don'T know how to count them, so I can't tell how many. The total in the bibliography is at approx. 100 as of now.
The bibliography takes about 3 minutes to complile as well, which I don't care much about because I can do that in the very end.
Considering that I now only have a fraction of what I'm going to arrive at in the final stage of the work (250-300 pages and maybe something like a 1000 entries in the bibliography), I am really, really scared that this whole thing is not going to work out.
How can I get rid of the auto refresh until it actually matters if there are numbers to be updated etc., i.e. upon export?
I'm running Word 2011 on OSX 10.8.5 on a MBP Retina with a 2.6 GHz Intel i7 and 16 GB or RAM.

Search not returning items in my library.
I have a several references that whilst they show up in my library I appear unable to find them via searches, either within the desktop application or when inserting references into Microsoft word 2010.
Several of them I have obviously found in the past because I have previously referenced them in my text.
I can see no obvious reason why this would be the case, I have also tried every search term imaginable up to an including the full title of the paper.
It seems the items have been flagged as unsearchable somehow and I can't see any options to set or unset any such flag.

About multiple users
I would like to know whether there is an option in Mendeley desktop if a single computer is used by more than one users.
I work in a lab where a couple of computers are used by around 3 or 4 researchers, and it would have been really helpful if Mendeley desktop had some kind of a 'username, password' system to maintain the privacy, similar to the Web account.

One author, two articles in the same year - ABNT

I use the ABNT style, and when there are more than one article per author in the same year, the inline citation doesn't appears with "a", "b"...
How can I fix this?

editing citation styles
Hello,
I have been trying to do a basic edit of the Vancouver style citation, and have been following the Mendeley tutorial at: http://blog.mendeley.com/research-tutorials/howto-edit-citation-styles-for-use-in-mendeley/
In fact the example there is exactly what I wanted to do (change brackets to square). I have followed all steps in the tutorial, however now when I try and use the edited style in MS Word it isn't working.
When I open the word plug in, I can select my edited style, however when I do this, the bibliography disappears, and when I try to insert anymore citations, once I click 'cite' in Mendeley, nothing is added into the word document.
The other generic citation styles are working fine.
I have tried uninstalling word plug-in, uninstalling Mendeley desktop, and have ensured I am running latest version of Word for Mac.
Any assistance with this would be very greatly appreciated.

I'm working on an article that we wish to submit to the European Journal of Surgical Oncology. The exact citation style required for this journal is not available in Mendeley. 'Elsevier Vancouver' style comes closest, but the article title and issue number is not supposed to be bold. Is there a way for me to modify this style?

Desktop not syncing to the web
Hello,
I have been through the threads, and I've got nothing. I cannot get my desktop to sync to the web. I have clicked the "Sync" button in desktop (many times) and nothing happens to the web library. I have re-installed mendelay, backed up and restored my Mendeley data, and searched the threads. My http://www.mendeley.com/library/ page still reads:
"You haven't started to use Mendeley to organize your research papers.
Read the Getting Started Guides
Download Mendeley Desktop and import your files
Add to your library online using the Web Importer
Look for articles in the Research papers catalog"
I was really looking forward to using the web interface, but its not working out. Ideas?

Word Plugin
Hi,
When I try to install the Word Plugin, Mendeley gives an error saying that I have a "Click-to-Run" version of Word 2010. How can I fix this problem without having to install another version Word?

citation style
I am currently trying to create a citation style for IBIS in the CSE in Mendeley. I was initially surprised and mortified that no such style should be for the biggest ornithological journal in Europe. I have succesfully used a similar template "Ecology" and changed some formatting, but two things I still struggle with to make it completely accurate are:
1. Journal abbreviations: The IBIS journal wants journal abbreviations, and I assume these would be appropriate with the abbreviation list. Is there currently no way of linking a correct list of journal abbreviations with a citation style, or does this have to be done locally? I also need help with setting this up, as I don't understand the guide that has been given on how to make the abbreviations occur in the a bibliography in MS word for example.
2. et al needs to be in italics in the inline citation, and I can't seem to do this without making all the author names into italics too. I have a suspicion I need to get into the code behind it, to perhaps change this, but please advice on this. I have also tried downloading citation styles where the et al should already be in italics, but those have not worked appropriately either.
And thirdly, assuming I will eventually crack this one, is there no way of making the citation style publicly available? I don't mean the private sharing of the weblink, but putting it into the Citation style repository?

How to re-extract meta-data for imported entries ?
I just import from Endnote X6 and find some meta information is wrong. But I do not know how to make Mendeley to retrieve those information again from web and show me the differences.
For example, all Endnote entries use "URL" to record the web location and without DOI. And Mendeley will add URL to the end of journal citations.

word plugin error 4120
I am on Mac Maveric, using word for mac 2011 and the newest version of Mendeley. Now, the plugin has stopped working. The plugin displays, but whenever I try to insert a reference or a bibliography, it fails with an error message citing error 4120, and just insets the text {formatting citation}.

Library does not sync on iPad
Hi, I have about 1GB of articles, and I keep everything synced to my iPad (that is basically why I have it). However, it will not refresh the library any more, it just says 'checking my library' and stays at 0%. I searched the forum, and found the answer was to log out and log in, forcing re-sync of the entire GB. It did then re-download all my articles, but that was it; the problem recurred.

Crashed, restore did not put my folders or groups back in. this is messed up!
Hi,
Mendeley is acting funny. I just managed a bunch of folders and citations saved in my group folders. I exited Mendeley Desktop and the next time I opened it, all the group folders were gone. I tried to restore a backup from 2 days ago, and it just put a bunch of citations in an unsorted folder, made the library folders disappear too. Now all my stuff ( from group "Second Step Meta-Analysis" and library) is all unsorted, and 1000 of the 4125 citations got deleted during the restore. I wish they were back in their folders sorted and tagged. This is important.
An error code I received during the process was (EID: merr-52ac000ad3)
Any help, please.

Mendeley MS word plug in problem on Mac
When i try to install MS word plug in I got the message below;
Error 1 compiling the Word plugins.
Executed: osacompile -o /Users/turkmens/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/Word Script Menu Items/Mendeley/Show Mendeley Toolbar.scpt -c MNDL -d -t osas.
I use the latest MS office version for mac which is 14.3.9(131030)
And latest Mac OS 10.9.

I have one PDF that will not sync.
I made extensive notes on a an article I scanned in and uploaded, but I cannot access the article or notes from other computers (though the reference is there). Everything else uploads fine. (And it is well under the 50MB limit.)

Search for book only in catalogue
I need to amend my manually entered books. I have been entering to what I thought was needed i.e. Last name, first name; last name, first name
Just discovered that I need to use 'enter' between each author
need to JUST pull up books on the list , to amend manually
How to search just for books?

When a book is authored by "Committee on Quality of Health Care in
Medicine", how do I fill it out in the author-box?
Currently, it keeps saying "Medicine, C." There must be a way to prevent this from happening?

Update problem with the MS Word plugins on MacOS

I am using Mendeley desktop on mac os 10.9, and I can not update the MS Word plugins.
The error message is:
