PDF import donesn't work on Win2012

Mendeley can not work correctly on my Windows-2012-64bit. I testified on another computer with the same operation system. When I tend to import PDFs, Mendeley 'import' them instantly, without any check for importing references. Therefore, I get only a bunch of filenames on the central panel of Mendeley, rather than references.

bug in syncing?

I have several local PDFs and HTML files which I have entered into Mendeley Desktop, some new today and some months old but which I moved and manually relinked today by clicking on the Add File button in the Details pane in each case, or in some cases imported the source files again and merged with existing records. If I initiate sync on the Desktop app, I lose the link to the local files. I again relink them manually, but each time the links disappear when I sync again! I may be logged in to Mendeley web, or not, but I am not undertaking any activity there. I read the Support article about how syncing works, and it is supposed to use the latest database, which would be the Desktop one.

How does synchonization work?

Would you please detail the behavior of the synchronization function? For example, now the synchronization option on my desktop is "Synchronize attached files" NOT checked. If my mendeley desktop has records A B and C while my web account has records D E and F. Now I click on the synchronize button. What would happen? Would my web account becomes ABC or my desktop records become DEF? I did some experiments. The outcomes are very confusing. Sometimes the web account goes with my desktop. Sometimes the desktop goes with my web account. Let me describe the most confusing outcome I got: Both desktop and the web account start with record A. I remove this record from the web account so that the web account has no article. I then add record B to my desktop so that on my desktop there are A and B. Now I click on the synch button and the result is both accounts become B, which is the state of neither account before clicking on the button. Would you please describe what exactly the synch function does when "Synchronize attached files" is NOT checked? what about when it is checked? You reply would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Dear mendeley team, after installing the new version of mendeley I can't see my contacts anymore. Before, they've been on the left bottom side (switch from author to people). Did you change something? Thank you, Martina

web importer

I have been using the web importer tonight after a long hiatus and it will only find one article per page and it cannot add any data for it. Only once on PubMed did it give me the whole list of references to choose from, otherwise when I click the link it says 'Could not detect bibliographic metadata. Create metadata below to enhance the quality of this resource.' and will only give me the option to save 1 article. Any ideas? Using Safari on macbook with latest mendeley update Cheers Lee

cant merge citations

I have updated my mendeley desktop last week, and found that I can't merge my citations. I have selected a few citations I created in MS word 2011 (mac version) with Mendeley 1.9.0, and selected "merge citations". All I got is "Please select at least two citations to merge". Is there any way I can go back to 1.9.0? tried to reinstall 1.9.1 but in vain. Thanks in advance!

importing pdf leads to errors in refs (ACTION REQUIRED)

Hi, There are several critical bugs with the new version. i have issues with some pdf that i imported and the refs are inaccurate +++. Some of them are missing the first line of authors (eg a NEJM paper from last year) some others are missing the first author... If you don't fix it - i am afraid i will stop using Mendeley and promoting it. This is not a threat - just fed up of all these bugs. Second i already posted a comment on this website about some problems in the citation style. These are not perfect : eg J Clin Oncol, and all trhe hournals from AACR such as Cancer res, Clin Cancer res. etc... It always include "[Internet]" or "Official journal of the American Society..." which are never inserted in these Journal. thanks, Charles Ferte, MD PhD charles.ferte@sagebase.org

I would like to create a folder in Mendeley that is a compilation of all of the references that I have inserted in a specific bibliography (made in Word). Is there a fast way to do this instead of bringing them into the folder one-by-one? Thanks!

Error connecting to the internet when syncing (Windows 8.1 but applies to other versions)

Solved after related questions popped up, thought I should post it anyway for reference. I am currently using Windows 8.1 preview and every piece of software I am using is working fine and the internet connection is perfect. However, when I am trying to do my first sync with Mendeley it times out and reports there is an issue with the internet connection, which is not the case. The error is displayed as follows: Network Error Message: 'Unable to send HTTP request to /api/documents/get.xml?excludeReferences=1&since=1373929142&av=1.0&id=MendeleyDesktop&cv=1.9.1&l=en-GB&ins=b7135432-1fab-4d7d-b194-62b7e1b42d79&osv=Win-f0' SOLUTION: Open Mendeley Desktop and click Tools / Options /Connection and uncheck the box marked Use System Connection Settings, then restart Mendeley Desktop

Restoring Mendeley database on new Mac without Web Sync

I had my Mendeley database on a 2007 computer that died, but luckily, I had backed up the entire drive (note: I did not specifically create a Mendeley database backup, just an overall HD backup). I did not sync my library, but have all of my PDF articles/documents in a Dropbox folder (they're all still there). However, when I try to load the database into my new laptop, it will not allow me to do so. I have the "myemail"@www.mendeley.com.sqlite database from the backup and I have all of the files, yet I cannot seem to get this to work. It would literally take 10-12 hours of my time to put the database back together, re-update all of the metadata and place everything into the correct folders. Is there any way to make this actually work??? Please help.

Superscripts and subscripts

In the release notes it is stated: "Added support for inserting citations as superscript, or subscript, where appropriate with the Word and OpenOffice plugin." I have not seen a description anywhere on how to do it, but inserting html-tags within a title in Mendeley desktop seems to do the trick. This works for subscripts but also for italics, etc. However, the formatting disappears from the title if the reference is changed in any way, for example by adding or removing a keyword, changing the page number, correcting the name of an author, etc. No message is given to the user about the formatting having been lost. Is there any way of making sure that once a title has been formatted, the formatting is kept, independently of any changes made to the rest of the reference? Thanks in advance! Note that Mendeley's support portal does not allow me to write html-tags in this message because the less-than and larger-than symbols are "invalid characters".

Mendeley won't insert citation in Word - sometimes, not always

Hi there! For the most part, my Word plugin works perfectly. However, sometimes (and I can't figure out what makes the difference) Mendeley just won't insert a citation. I do get the popup where I write the author name, and Mendeley finds the article, but nothing happens when I press OK. I use Mendeley desktop 1.9.1 and Word 2007. What can I do? /Katrine

Hi, Firstly, i am sorry if the question is asked before. I couldn't find a topic such i am writing now. When i try to sync my folders to my web account, mendeley desktop removes some attached PDFs. Their refenrences are still seen on the screen but PDF icons are not visible so that i can not open any PDF file in my mendeley destop, also they are not visible in web account. The strange part is not all attached files are removed only certain number and definite papers are disappeared. If anyone could help me about this, i will be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Bibliography has disappeared in Word

I have been using the Mendeley Word Plugin for a while, and been very happy about it. However, suddenly the bibliography I had inserted in a Word document has disappeared, an in stead it says (ADDIN Mendeley Bibliography....). I've tried hitting refresh, but it doesn't work. Furthermore, insertion of citation now takes ages, and if I cut and paste the citations in the document (worked perfectly before), full abstracts appear in my Word document. Can you please help me? Thanks.

Bug Report: Unlinking files on sync

$

I'm using Mendeley Desktop 1.9.1 on Mac OS 10.8.4. I wasn't aware of this happening in 1.8.x, and I would have done the exact same sequence of commands then. The 1.9.1 changelog also says "Fixed an issue where file attachments were lost locally after a sync if upload the attachment failed.", this sounds similar to what I'm experiencing, but not identical. My issue is that Mendeley is unlinking attached local files on Sync. Note that I've not actually lost any data, due to the very sensible policy of not deleting files, but the data is unlinked from the metadata. Also, I don't actually synchronise files with Mendeley (i.e. "Synchronize attached files" is unchecked for my entire library), I only sync metadata. I have the log file log-2013-07-16.txt (from --verbose-log), which covers Start-up, Case 1 and Case 2 below. Case 3 is from memory, as I didn't want to try and delete more files. Before creating this log I had Mendeley 'tidy up' unlinked files to reduce noise in the log (I kept backup copies obviously). I can email the log if it will be helpful. Start-up) 1) Open Mendeley (via Terminal.app so as I can add --verbose-log). 1A) Mendeley automatically syncs 2) Select 'Broken Sync' tag (I tagged at-issue entries for my own reference) 3) Manually hit 'Sync' button, just-in-case Case 1) Item is a web-page, it has a PDF file attached. 1) Add the HTML version to entry ('Add File...' in 'Details' section) 2) Wait for filetype icon in browser to change from PDF to multiple 3) Manually hit 'Sync' button Result: The HTML document gets forgotten, which I would not expect. Case 2) Item is a paper, it has no files attached. 1) Add the PDF file to the entry ('Add File...' in 'Details' section) 2) Wait for PDF filetype icon to appear in browser 3) Manually hit 'Sync' button Result: The PDF document gets forgotten, which I would not expect. Case 3 -- not in log as I do not wish to unlink more files) 1) While investigating disappearing file notice that another web-page is misnamed, HTML and PDF versions have been attached for months 2) Correct title of entry 3) Manually hit 'Sync' button Result: The HTML and PDF versions are both forgotten, despite being attached for months! Definitely not what I would expect. If you require more information (or the log file) then please let me know.
