What are the functions of the database folder and the organized foler?
Hello, I am on XP 32, Mendeley 1.10.1. I don't quite understand the functions of the database folder and the folder for "organize my file". Could anyone tell me what would happen to these two folders when I make following changes:
1. My Mendeley Web have my all PDF files and reference information. Then I reinstall the XP, and all my local PDFs are gone. If I reinstall Mendeley and synchronize, what would happen to these two folders?
2. I manually put a new PDF (say "1234.pdf") in the database folder, and drag it into Mendeley. Will Mendeley create a copy file and rename it in the database folder? Will it copy the PDF and rename it in organized folder?
3. I drag a new PDF from another folder into Mendeley. Will Mendeley create a copy file and rename it in the database folder? Will it copy the PDF and rename it in organized folder?
4. I delete a document (which links to a PDF in the database folder) in my Mendeley, and then synchronize. Will the PDF in the database folder be also deleted? Suppose the document links to a PDF in the organized foler, will the PDF in this folder be also deleted?

Cannot open exported Word document
Hello Mendeley team,
I love your tool and it works really well 99% of the time!
I have found an issue when exporting a document "without mendeley fields" in Word. It seems to work fine and procudes a .docx with reasonable file size, but I cannot reopen the Word document. Error: Cannot open document. No details available..
I have tried this with a huge document and a minimum example with just one citation as well. I am using Mendeley version 1.10.1 and Word 14.0.7106.5003 (32-Bit). I also tried reopening the exported Word on another computer (without Mendeley installed), but this also doesn't work. Changing citation styles etc. doesnt work either.
Have you encountered similar problems? Is there some work-around?
I need this feature for backing up some very important stuff..

can't annotate pdfs
I'm a HS librarian playing with Mandeley before recommending it to our 100 11th graders about to start work on a 4,000 word research paper.
A couple questions:
a. Many students now use Evernote, which does a great job of web-clipping and allows adding images/video, etc. Do you anticipate adding those features? Students can also add audio notes.
b. I loved the highlight/annotate feature which worked well on the JSTOR pdf I dragged in. However, when I tried it with a PDF from Proquest, it wouldn't work. Any idea what is happening?
c. It seems a bit bizarre that you can't add just a blank page for notes, etc. not related to an article. Any plans to add that?

Rename files in watched folder
Hi,
I have a few folders watched by mendeley. What I want to do is just keep all my files there and have them renamed in the original folders. Is that even possible odr can Mendely only rename files in a new folder, the one where all the files are copied to? I do not need them to be copied to another folder at alle actually. My folders have a certain structure (subfolders)and I would like to keep them in this structure and be renamed there...?

No contacts pane - cannot send pdf
Hello,
A while ago, the contacts pane disappeared from my Mendeley desktop client. It used to be in the left bottom corner, but now there's only a list of authors. This happens with my account on different computers.
A possibly related problem is that I cannot send PDFs to contacts. I cannot drag a paper to my contacts (as the pane is missing), so only have the "Send by email..." option, which sends the reference to an email address, but does not allow the recipient to download the PDF.
Not having the contacts pane I can live with, but not being able to send PDFs is quite unfortunate.

Add a variable to a modified citation style
I would like to modify the Harvard style to include the 'abstract' variable. I am not quite sure how to do this. The variable is in the mapped list, but I can't see how to add it from the wysiwyg screen. I can code it if necessary but would appreciate an example.

include date accessed in all document types
Dear Mendeley team,
I'm using the American Psychological Association style and would like to include the date accessed in the bibliography for all types of documents.
I've added the "Data accessed" category to all types of documents and filled it in with the relevant information. I've also ticked "Include URLs and date accessed in bibliographies" for all document types under "Select citation style".
Yet, when I generate the bibliography, the date accessed only appears for websites and not for other types of documents.For other types of documents the URL appears, but not the date accessed.
This is really stupid because in my discipline it is standard to always provide a date accessed with the URL and I use various reports, working papers etc that are available online.
It would be great if you could look into this.

How do I export references to Endnote, using Mendeley Web?
Hello. I have recently got rid of my PC; so I no longer have access to Mendeley Desktop.
The PCs available at my institution have EndNote installed on them, so I would like to be able to export my references into EndNote, from Mendeley Web. How can I do this, please?

DOI Lookup failure
The DOI lookup seems to fail for all articles from the journal Computers, Materials, & Continua. Here is an example doi that Mendeley fails to resolve:
10.3970/cmc.2010.016.273
However, if I use http://dx.doi.org/ to try to resolve the doi it works fine, so I know it exists. I've seen many other doi lookup issues posted. Is there any known workaround until Mendeley gets this fixed?

"Search by Title" feature only works once after restart.
Hello,
I am attempting to correct the information on some entries by using the "Search by Title" feature. It will work once and then fail for all following attempts. I can then restart the program and it will work once again, then I must restart again.
It 'fails' by hanging on the spinning circle animation as if it is continuing to search, but never comes back with information. The titles being searched for are the correct ones, and it occurs for all articles I attempt to look up. One will fail, I will restart, and then that same article will be successful after the restart.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also, is there a "Search by DOI" feature?

Management of pdfs and how mendeley finds new annotations
Hi!
I have Mendeley installed on my desktop, and have NOT clicked in the Option - File Organizer - Organize my files.
This seems to mean that all pdfs, that I typically store in a folder called Research/Articles, are copied by Mendeley into another folder, managed by Mendeley. So.. what happens when I make a new annotation to an aldready existing PDF? It seems that it is not found by Mendeley, which makes sense, since I have annotated it in my folder Research/Articles, and a copy of it already exists in Mendeley's own folder.
So how do I manage this? What I am after is not to add new pdfs, but to make Mendeley identify new annotations, made with other programs, in the PDF-files (I annotate using an Android tablet).

Watched Folder on Network Drive
Hello,
On the PC I have it is possible to 'watch' a folder on our network drive. On the mac I have, when I go to set up the same 'watch folder', it will not locate our mapped network drive.
Is this possible to do?

corrupted desktop library
help. the desktop library now shows that every file has the same authors (the authors of the last pdf added). however, the ipad and internet version still seem to be intact. how to recuperate the desktop version before corrupting it on other platforms?

Bibtex sync 1.10.3 problem and solution
After upgrading to version 1.10.3 the bibtex sync creates errors.
With setting at "One bibtex file for whole library" the entries that are also in groups end up duplicated.
This might be an ok function for some, but it is very problematic for some to have different citation keys for the two entries.
Solution:
Extra sync option for only personal documents or the function of "One entry per collection" be altered to include an output of the full personal library. I.e. group1.bib, group2.bib, ...., personal.bib

web importer
Hello,
impossible to drag the "Save To Mendeley" button to your bookmarks toolbar. This button appears grey and not red as announced (important ?) In the toolbar, it can't cling. I don't know why.

Multilingual bibliography
Hi
I usually use some English, Persian and Arabic references in my researches.
As you know the mentioned languages syntax and prepositions are different and it should use "and" for English, "و" for Persian and Arabic.
I found that each CSL file possible to localize with only one language. Is there any way to use appropriated terms for each unique bibliography's items at the same time?

Mendeley update "Do you want to save the changes to Mendeley-1.10.3?"
Just installed the latest update (1.10.3) and when I open a word document (even a blank one) and try to close it I get a prompt saying "Do you want to save the changes to Mendeley-1.10.3?"
I am running word 2007. I have reinstalled the plugin fresh and the problem still occurs.
