"problem formatting citation"
Not a question, but a bug report:
Every time I try to edit a citation using Word 2010 for Mac, i get the error "Problem formatting citation #[XX] / Problem updating citation: [what the citation was] / you can fix this citation by removing and re-inserting it"
I do not get this error when I add new citations, only when I edit existing ones. Pretty annoying when I have a citation with 6 references and want to add one in.
I do not get this error when I use Word on my Windows machine.

Mendeley desktop won't start
In Ubuntu 12.04. Mendeley desktop crashed and won't restart. I read a few other Q&A's from people experiencing this problem and those fixes (eg https://gist.github.com/1605691 with GDB) did not work.

Cite in other language - portuguese
I am unable to find out how to cite in other languages than English. I would like to do my citations in portuguese. Is there a way to do it?
I found some posts about the same subject (in other languages) but didn't understand how to fix this problem.
It seems to me that mendeley desktop doesn´t have a friendley way to do it, so i suggest mendeley desktop should incorporate one.
Thanks in advance.

You only get one edit on the Visual CSL Editor
If I choose to edit a style, the Visual CSL Editor opens up OK, then I make some changes, then I click Save, then it loads up the modified style on the Desktop. But if the edited style doesn't look right, and you try to make more changes, all hell breaks loose. I can never edit that style again. I also can't make a new style based on the old one. No matter what I try, I get errors. Is there a way to reset everything? Sometime I get the "An Error occurred" Refresh, Reset thing (If you click the X on that box, God help you), sometimes I get the Javascript nastygram window: Error:
That's all the information I can give you since that's all the website gives me. I am in 'Style already exists hell' and can't find my way out.

I have successfully changed my email address on Mendeley online. For the Desktop version, I know I should go to Tools, Options. From there, however, there is no 'Mendeley Desktop' button

word plugin
Hello,
I receive a massage that say mendeley was crashed. Also, my mendeley didn't add to my word 2007. I go to my add-in of my word, and select Mendeley-1.11.dot. and also I see the ‘security warning’ to allow the new macro to run. But it doesn't appear on my word in new tab as Add-in.
Thank you.

Syncing messed up my PDFs and erased some of the notes!
So, I had to restore my OS, which went fine. When I re-downloaded Mendeley desktop, I re-synced my library and everything was normal. The next day, I open Mendeley desktop, it does its auto-sync thing, and now I have articles that 'need review' (which I didn't have before to do before because everything was reviewed) and some previously-sorted articles are now in the 'unsorted' folder with NO NOTES!
It seems like Mendeley reverted to an earlier time when syncing, as this glitch does not seem to erase notes from random PDFs. If this is the case, then a log of syncs should be in the cloud somewhere, and I need to get back to a more recent version.
PLEASE HELP!

CSL editor
I am trying to edit a reference style to fit the editorial norms requiered by my anthropology department and I am finding it impossible to achieve. I write in French and I wish to change ''and'' to ''et'' and modify the '' symbols to their equivalent in French. Can this be acheived in Mendeley or do I have to switch to a software wich enables customization in other languages than English?
Thank you for your help,

My mendeley desktop isn't loading
As of last week, my mendeley desktop is not loading.
The Mendeley crash recovery window opens and I click 'recover' and ' send crash report to Mendeley is selected' .. after 100% crash report is sent, mendeley appears to be loading but it doesn't. And when accessed via word it says it cannot be accessed.
Please help me.

Incorrect citations in Word 2011 for Mac
I'm editing a paper (Word for Mac 2011, track changes on) and towards the end of the paper, if I edit or add any citations, it will just replace an existing citation with a completely different one. Also, if I add a citation it inserts a completely different reference instead, and also change many citations that follow to completely different references. It's refusing to accept that I don't want to cite some authors in certain locations. It's making it virtually impossible to work on this article. Refreshing the citations doesn't help. If I toggle field codes in word, it will cite the author it thinks should be there, instead of the one I want to put in.
Is it worth starting a new document, or is there an alternative I can try?

Export failure
I have been having problems exporting references from Scopus. The message is: "We could not locate any content for the URL / DOI specified". Which is a similar problem with the following post:

How to check if all references still exist in Mendeley?
A few days ago I ran into some problems with my Mendeley database and had to restore it from a backup. After recovering it I noticed that some files lost their file associations. I have no problem in recovering those file associations, but I'm worried that my backup may not have kept/recovered all my references.
How can I make sure that all references that I used in a couple of Word documents still exist in my Mendeley database?
Thank you!

latex citation through OO plugin
Hello,
is it possible to display \cite{ref} for the citations inserted using the plugin for Open Office? It will help immensely, as porting to latex from OO will be matter of just copy & paste.

Problem with citing manual entries
Hi. I am having trouble when citing entries in Word (2010). After creating a manual entry in Mendeley desktop (running in Windows 7 Professional), when citing it in Word, I can chose it from the list of citations but then nothing happens - the citation is not added. I've tried adding entries in various ways for reports and books - either filling in the 'add document' form, or adding a self-made PDF (not a journal article where it doesn't auto fill the entries) and adjusting the information, but no luck, it doesn't cite. If using pdf's of journal articles it works fine.
Thanks in advance.

PDF Files (which can I delete!)
Hi, hope you can help me out, any advice on the mess I have made is greatly appreciated....
I have a Pro (Advisors) Account and plenty of memory. However, sadly my Dropbox does not and I need to clear some space!
I use a watched folder in Dropbox to transfer files into Mendeley Desktop. Today, I learned that I can delete the files from the watch folder, after having used the File organiser. This has helped greatly.
Also, I also use Mendeley on a work PC & my Macbook at home.
-On my Macbook files are located in Users/Mendeley/Downloaded
-On the work PC the files are located in a folder in My Documents.
(I found this by right-clicking on a file in Mendeley and selecting Open Containing Folder; is this correct?)
I also found that in my Dropbox is a 2Gb folder called 'Annotated Mendeley Folder' with a list of all the files I have ever imported (and quite a few which I have subsequently deleted) I assume this was some kind of back-up folder, or I may have exported with annotations some time ago. There are about 2.5K files in this folder all named by year author etc..
My first question is, in the interest of space saving:
-which files can I delete without disturbing the collection of files which I have now reduced to what I need (1.5K files)
Finally, I have added a lot of files over the years and a number of them keep appearing, despite being deleted and removed from collection. I assume this may be related to the many folders I have as described above.
My second question is slightly related:
-How can I permanently delete a file in this instance?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as everytime I turn on Mendeley these old files appear again and I lose a small piece of my sanity....
