editing citation styles

Hello, I have been trying to do a basic edit of the Vancouver style citation, and have been following the Mendeley tutorial at: http://blog.mendeley.com/research-tutorials/howto-edit-citation-styles-for-use-in-mendeley/ In fact the example there is exactly what I wanted to do (change brackets to square). I have followed all steps in the tutorial, however now when I try and use the edited style in MS Word it isn't working. When I open the word plug in, I can select my edited style, however when I do this, the bibliography disappears, and when I try to insert anymore citations, once I click 'cite' in Mendeley, nothing is added into the word document. The other generic citation styles are working fine. I have tried uninstalling word plug-in, uninstalling Mendeley desktop, and have ensured I am running latest version of Word for Mac. Any assistance with this would be very greatly appreciated. Many thanks!
