I go to menu Tools,Options and then
1. tab "add watch folder" A, it has hierarchy up to many levels.
2. also, tab File organizer, copy files to B
Now, 500 pdfs from A are simply copied to B. This link from 2012 http://support.mendeley.com/customer/portal/questions/228076-can-folder-structure-be-preserved-when-importing-files-to-mendeley-desktop- suggests that file structure can not be preserved. Ok , so if i manually create the hierarchy of A which is on my local disk, on Mendeley desktop too and copy all pdfs accordingly, it will again copy pdfs unstructured in B.
The problem is will files added to subfolders of A, be added in Mendeley desktop's hierarchy (i.e. in subfolder of A) or directly in A?
I think I am better off with ignoring my local disk or google drive or dropbox and just add documents in manually created hierarchy in Mendeley because it is on cloud too and syncs well.
