How to import references

I'm writing a review article for a journal and for my list of references that I want to cite, I have a word document with a list of about 50 references (for example, I'm showing how the first 3 references appear below: 1. Haffner SM, Lehto S, Ronnemaa T. Mortality from coronary heart disease in subjects with type 2 diabetes and in nondiabetic subjects with and without prior myocardial infarction. N. Engl. J. Med. 1998;339:229-234. 2. Haffner SM, Alexander CM, Cook TJ. Reduced coronary events in simvastatin-treated patients with coronary heart disease and diabetes or impaired fasting glucose levels: subgroup analyses in the Scandinavian Simvastatin Survival Study. Arch. Intern. Med. 1999;159:2661-2667. 3. Gotto AM. Lipid management in diabetic patients: lessons from prevention trials. Am. J. Med. 2002;112:19S-26S.) I don't have these actual pdf files on my computer. I want to use Mendeley to organize these references into a database file for me so I can then use the Mendeley's integrated word module to insert the correct reference numbers where I want to in the text of my article from this constructed database.
