I am using 64 bit Windows 7 Professional. I have not moved my pdf files, but over the last week I have lost 2043 links out of 5377 references.
The files have not moved. They remain untouched.
I have tried restoring the database from a previous back-up (whose links have not been destroyed, on a machine that is not synched to the server), and the links on the new machine remain broken.
If I drag and dop one of the files to Mendeley or manually add a file whose link was broken it does not restore the link. The only way of restoring the link is by deleting the existing reference in the "Files" slot, and manually re-adding it. This is impractical to do for 2043 documents.
Other people who have reported this problem find that even after restoring their files, pdf links will be broken again.
(1) How are these links destroyed when no files have been moved (it was working fine a few weeks ago)?
(2) How can they be restored, without manually deleting entries and adding the original files again?
(3) Is there a risk that more pdf links will be lost?
(4) The whole point of a back-up is that it should be able to restore the prior state, why is it that the back-up does not restore broken links?
I cannot recommend anyone using Mendeley until this bug/these bug(s) have been fixed. I have stopped adding any more files for my current work. I am seriously considering abandoning Mendeley completey.
