Dear team of Mendeley,
I had to format move all my files away from my computer and them move them back in a way that the location was not the same as the previous. I had all my files backed up in an hard drive and I thought that once back in Mendeley I could simply set the new location of my folder and I would have all my files and my entries organised as before.
I was surprised to see that was not the case. Before reseting my files I came here to the support to look for the correct steps. But instead I could only find posts in which people say is not that simple and Mendeley support suggesting them just to drag the files back to Mendeley again.
Well, as other people I was also afraid that this could make Mendeley could update my entries using the information on the PDF (which normally turns out to be wrong). In Mendeley preference I reset the location for the file organiser pointing to my new location where all my were already. A message came out telling me that there was alredy files there (of course, all the files were exactly there, very organised). I didn't knew what to expect considering the location for the files to be imported would be also the same location where Mendeley makes copies. It didn't worked. I also set the same location as "watched folder" expecting that would relocate every thing... but not! I have followed the inscturction by Mendeley support telling to drag the files back in the software and it would link them. But it doesn't work, Seems that with the watched folders several files were identified and relinked, but several were not.
I dont know what to say it is all so confuse for something that should be extremely simple. I cant know if my library took the files downloading them from the internet or from the hard disk. And worst since I have hundred of entries I can't know if my entries is still the same. And I still have several links broken having no idea how to fix them because dragging the files to the software just don't work. Argh. It is so frustrating. Do you have any help?
