Our lab recently purchased a group share of Mendeley which costs a lot of money. Unfortunately, as a papers2 user, I am very disappointed in Mendeley's lack of functions. One of the most annoying thing is the lack of pdf download support of mendeley. In papers2, I can search and downloads pdf files directly within the program or using the web plugin, I can open the pdf link and papers will automatically download the pdf file.
With Mendeley, I can only import the citation but then I need to download the pdf file separately and import it again.
Mendeley also lacks the functionality to recognise the DOI information and tries to match metadata using Google Scholar which most of the time returns incomplete or wrong information.
I don't understand how am I supposed to use Mendeley if it cannot import the pdf and if it cannot retrieve proper metadata? At the moment, users have to do these manually.
