how edit citation so uses journal abbreviations

I am trying to create a citation style for the journal CBE Life Sciences Education ( http://www.lifescied.org/ ) and have started here: http://csl.mendeley.com/styles/59662261/CBE-LSE-2 I have three problems that I cannot seem to edit: 1. How do I edit this style so that it displays the journal abbreviation rather than the journal's full name? I know this is possible but nothing I do will change the example that is displayed. It keeps showing "Journal of Instrumentation" in the visual editor rather than its abbreviated title. 2. for in text citations where there are multiple authors for a given work the "et al" needs to be in italics. I can only figure out how to change the entire in-text citation from normal to italics but all I need is for the "et al" to be italicized. 3. after saving the changes I have made, the reference list in my manuscript does not update with the new style edits. I have tried inserting a new citation to sort of "bump" the system to try and get it to update itself but to no avail - it continues to display authors' names in bold which I though I was successful in editing in the visual editor. Thanks for your assistance. Neil
