Lost annotations following email change

Hi, I left my previous institution and with this my email account that I used to sign up for Mendeley will expire. I have changed my registered email address on the Mendeley website. Following this, Mendeley Desktop on my Linux machine, PC and Mac have told me that the email/account does not exist. I then simply logged into Mendeley Desktop on those machines with my new login credentials. I now realise that this has led to all my annotations being lost. Is there any way to retrieve them? Are they stored somewhere on my hard drive? I expected them to be synced to my online account and, therefore, also be available after a change of my email address. Instead, Mendeley desktop downloaded all my pdfs automatically but without annotations. Thanks for advice, a lot of work would be lost should my annotations not be retrievable... J
