I am facing an issue while attempting to migrate my database from my office desktop (running under Windows 7 Professional) to another computer (running under Windows 7 Home edition). I am not using the synchronisation tool because my database is too large (and also because some documents collected in the database are too large).
So I made a back-up of my initial database by using the tool under the menu "Help" of Mendeley Desktop, and I copied the map with all pdf-documents onto a remote hard disk.
I installed Mendeley Desktop on the second computer and logged in with my unique account. The content of my database appeared to be retrieved via my account, thus without the attached files (so far logical). Then I imported the back-up map with the pdf-files via the command "Add folder" after having copied it from the remote drive to the data hard drive on the second desktop computer. The retrieved correspondance grade appears to be very low. It seems I could use the "Check for Duplicates" command to re-order things, but it represents a huge work (more than 1100 references concerned...).
Any better method to complete the migration successfully (from this point or from the last back-up zip file) ?
PS: I noticed another issue : when regrouping documents with the "File organizer" on my office desktop, the files retrieved via groups or internet and located in the user's local data %...%\Mendeley Ltd\Mendeley Desktop\Downloaded are not copied in the target map, and the corresponding link in references remains also unchanged, contrary to the other ones. Also, it seems that using the "Check for Duplicates" command move some files to that map, in place of the main map of the database. Not that ideal in my opinion; is there any way to control the target location of that "Downloaded" map ?
