When I try to launch Mendeley desktop, Mac says it is already running, but....

I don't know where it would be! It is not in either of the desktop windows I am working on, not in the task bar, and I can't opt for "Force Quit" of Mendeley Desktop b/c that window doesn't show that it is running. Computer is updated and I have restarted several times - no change. Is my only option to trash the current Mendeley Desktop, then reinstall and sync with my web account? Thanks!
