Usually when I save a PDF to my watched folder, the next time I open Mendeley the new items appear and already have a citation key generated.
Sometimes though, and i think this is a recent phenomenon, a key is not generated. Does the generation of a key depend on a test that automatically imported items can pass or fail?
For example, if the metadata that Mendeley drag in seem improbable, or if there is not year data, is there a fail rule?
I see from other posts that once a citation key is generated it will not be automatically updated if the fields are changed, is the same true of entries that fail to generate when they are imported? Will those require manual entry?
Would a person be better off to get BibTeX to generate the citation key?
