I've been using Mendeley Desktop for years now and one of it's most annoying 'features' is the fact that it perpetually carries out tasks:
"Completed X of Y tasks"
Sometimes X=Y. Maybe I'll click the little 'x' next to it... ok, that does absolutely nothing. Maybe clicking 'sync' will help. Oh, no, now I have Y+1 tasks, great! Maybe if I just close Mendeley and re-open it that will sort things. Oh great, it's crashed - send report. Oh and hey, here come the tasks again.
This is a relatively regular occurrence. Most of the time when this happens it seriously slows down my machine and Mendeley becomes unusable. It usually happens when I either add a PDF to my watched folder or delete something from my library. I have experienced it on various machines and on both Windows 7 and XP.
Clearly I'm not the only person having this problem, but Mendeley Support has been passive aggressive on the issue, offering little guidance and closing all relevant threads without resolve:

Why does Mendeley Desktop perpetually carry out tasks, and why no solutions from Mendeley Support?
