Keeping Two Desktop Instances in Sync

I have a Linux desktop at work and a Windows laptop at home. I keep all of my PDF files in a directory structure which I rsync between the two machines so that all of the PDFs are in both places and have exactly the same names. However, despite setting the appropriate directory under the "File Organizer" tab of the Tools-Options menu, my laptop cannot find the PDF file for an entry without manually specifying the appropriate PDF file. The database syncs perfectly and I can find my entries with the correct CitationKey, etc. However, I know that the PDF exists in the directory, but only my Linux box (where I generally do initial downloads and create new entries) allows me to click on the PDF icon to pull up a paper. Is there any way to get these two Mendeley Desktop instances in sync with each other without uploading all of my PDFs to the website?
