import multiple EndNote XML files - inconsistent results

Dear Mendeley support, One of our customers recently encountered a problem using Mendeley for a systematic review. She had 2 source files 'A' and 'B'(EndNote XML) with around 5000-6000 references each, that she imported into 2 separate folders. It can be expected that the import of the second file results is less references than the file contains due to duplicates that are automatically removed. However, the problem is that the end result (total # of references) differs depending on which file (A or B) is imported first and which second. (between the two experiments (1: import A than B; 2: import B than A) all references were deleted from the account. Perhaps even more worrisome, when I tried to repeat the same workflow (again, deleting all data in between) I got different results (different numbers) still. To illustrate, here are the numbers: file A contains 6710 references file B contains 4772 references Customer workflow 1: import A leads to 6710 references in folder A import B leads to 4588 references in folder B total # references: 8070 Customer workflow 2: import B leads to 4772 references in folder B import A leads to 6538 references in folder A total # references: 7825 (??) Librarian workflow 1: import A leads to 6710 references in folder A import B leads to 4587 references in folder B total # references: 7813 (??) Librarian workflow 2: import B leads to 4553 (??) references in folder B import A leads to 6466 references in folder A total # references: 7536 (??) If you need the original files I could send them using WeTransfer, as they are around 80 MB. I hope you can shed any light on what is happening here! kind regards, Bianca Kramer Utrecht University Library Utrecht, The Netherlands
