export without fields

Dear people, I want to export an article in Word with Mendeley footnote fields to a Word file with clear fieldless references. The editor requires it, for he is afraid it will mess up the book. So, I want a file that is as clean as possible. I do not need to change footnotes again. But my Word 2007 with Mendeley plugin does not do it, when I press "Export without fields" button. He exports a file, but there are still the fields in it, turning grey if I hoover above it and being able to edit citations. I don't want to be able to do that anymore. I have already removed the plug in and reinstalled the plugin. What should I do now? Are there other programs that can remove fields? I am tempted to change it into a pdf and then import it back into a word-file, but that creates thousands of new problems, I assume, including footnote problems. No, I would like the footnotes to stay, but the Mendeley references to go. Can you help me? Regards, Robert-Jan
