Hi, I have a Word 2010 32 bits plugin problem. Word cannot "see" the plugin. Thank you, George.

When I type the name of the authors of a paper in the author box Mendeley doesn't recognise them as different authors but classifies al the information after the last name of the first author as his first name.

Committee as author

I'm trying to enter a committee as the author of book but Mendeley desktop automatically puts it into "last name, first name" format. For example, "National Academy of Engineering National Research Council Committee on Understanding and Improving K-12 Engineering Education in the United States" appears as "States, National Academy..." Can this be corrected?

Mendeley account for a department

Hi, We are planning to put all our department's publications up on Mendeley. We would like to have a recognizable department account for this (as opposed to one for a specific named individual). Does Mendeley have the concept of accounts for institutions? I would also like to be able to have several people (i.e. administrative assistants) in our department contribute to the reference list. What is the most efficient and appropriate way of going about this? I have used Medeley for about a year now and its worked well. Today, every time I insert a citation, the citation appears to be inserted and then Word 2008 for Mac crashes. Below is the crash report. I turned off track changes and I still get this message repeatedly. Thanks for your help! Mendeley Word Mac plugin encountered an error: ExceptionName: CommandError ExceptionError: Command failed: OSERROR: -609 MESSAGE: Connection is invalid. (I have the rest of this, but this text field says "invalid characters found" when I include the whole report).

Attachment renaming issue with two desktops

I have been using a desktop installation on a desktop device for quite a while. I manually rename my PDF articles prior to attaching to reference entries in the desktop version. My desktop syncs to the Web with no issue. I now want to also use a laptop with the Mendeley desktop application installed and be able to use either device and keep my references, with their attached PDF files, in sync. When I installed Mendeley desktop application on the laptop and logged in using the same account I use on my other device, Mendeley proceeded to sync the the laptop installation with the web. No problem, EXCEPT when it downloaded the attached PDF files, it renamed each of them (300+). How do I get the laptop installation to perform an initial sync and not make any changes to my PDF filenames? I want to be sure that my PDF files keep the name I give them regardless of which device I use to create a reference and attach a PDF.

I was invited to join a group and can access the articles online. However the group does not show up in my Mendeley Desktop. How can I get the group folder and articles into Mendeley Desktop? Cheers, Beth

Problem with extracting data from PDF file

I imported some articles (PDF) but Mendeley didn't extract data at all. I had to search with every title of articles. I even changed name of PC because I read the question about similar problem like me. My PC OS is window 7 (34 bit) and Mendeley version is 1.10.1 (latest one).

Spurious journal title showing in error on list entry for a report

I imported the document: Department of Health Research governance framework for social care, 2nd ed. London: DH, 2005 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11892625 to Mendeley Desktop as a PDF file. The system 'assumed' initially that it was a journal article, and also 'assumed' that it was from the journal Health and Social Care in the Community. I amended the citation and changed the item type from 'journal article' to 'report', but the supposed journal title is still showing in the list view under 'Published in'. Is there any way to get rid of it? Presumably this is a bug? Regards Catherine Ebenezer ebenezercm@supanet.com

Is there a limit on the number of different tags we can use in all the library (I am not requesting the limit of tags per publication but in general)?

Permissions to make file downloadable

Myself and my boss, Dr. Ty Dunn, are utilizing Mendeley desktop to upload pdfs of articles she is referencing for a manuscript due Monday. Unfortunately, the documents we upload to the "Pancreas Retransplant" group are not able to be downloaded by the other person on their computer. The pdfs are syncing to the website, but every time I try to open a pdf in my desktop version that was uploaded by her I get the following warning "Unfortunately we do not have permission to make this file downloadable;" vice versa. How do we grant permission? Katherine Foster foste300@umn.edu

Creating a folder from a word doc's references

I recently wrote a paper and referenced it with citations from a folder in my library (which has more references than I used). However, it would now be really useful to be able to extract the references I used in that paper into a separate folder. Is there some way I can identify them en masse and move them to a new folder? Or do I have to search for them individually and move them manually? Thanks!

unable to download PDFs from Mendeley Web

Hi there, I have uploaded about 4 GB of PDFs from my home computer to Mendeley Web. I've synchronized my library on my work computer with Mendeley Web, but it won't download an ymore PDFs -- I'm stuck at about 3.2 GB. Clicking "sync" just synchronizes the citations, nothing downloads. I do have plenty of space on my hard drive so that isn't the issue. I'm running the latest Mendeley Desktop on my Mac, which runs OS X 10.6.8. Thanks, Kevin

Merging documents

Dear Sirs: I have classified my database using folders in a hierarchical way. Pdfs were included in one or another folder depending on the main topic. Bus as the database was getting more and more complex (now it has around 3000 citations)the number of duplicates has also been increasing. One solution would be merging documents, and keeping just one copy of the pdf, and resorting to tags. But the problem is that when I use the option Check for Duplicates, Mendeley tells me that there are two.three copies of a paper, andthat I can merge them, but it does nor say me in which folder are they located. Taking into account that around 1500 pdfs are in the "unsorted" folder, I might find myself "merging" the files in the "unsorted" folder instead of the proper folder, or being not able to choose which is the best folder to keep the file, and then tag it to keep the link to the other subject. So, is there a way to know, when using the "Check for Duplicates" option, which is the original folder of each of the duplicates. Thanks so much. Pau Perez-Sales. Mendeley Advisor.

Article imported but not visible -- what to do?!

I imported an article with the web importer. It appeared to import fine, but does not appear in the library and I cannot cite it. And now I cannot re-import it without being told that it is already in my library (group, actually) The article I imported immediately before and after this one came in just fine and are visible and citeable. But not the one in the middle. Is there a way to peek under the hood to see this and delete it, so I can try again.
